It's harder than you would think to make a podcast...
This week, for Principles of Social media, we had to make a podcast interviewing a social media expert. When I first heard this I thought it should be pretty easy. And I immediately thought about my best friend, Kayleigh Jarkowsky. She is a student here at ONU and took Principles of Social Media last year. She has used her skills to become the social media assistant in her sorority. She is really enjoying it and I decided to interview her about what she does in her sorority. If you'd like to listen to her side of the story, here is the link to my first ever podcast episode! It's pretty cool so go check it out.
This week has been a little crazy. I've been in rehearsal from six to ten every night of the week until the performances next weekend. I was out of town last weekend at my cousins wedding and went straight into rehearsals. I didn't even have time to get ahead of my homework. But I found some time to get together with my friend and record a quick little podcast. I asked her about her position, what she does, how she handled marketing recruitment this weekend and a couple other things. Interviewing her was easy. Editing the podcast was not. I spent over an hour trying to convert files, adding a song to the beginning and end, finding a website to post it on and making it sound good. First I tried to use iMovie, but I couldn't figure out how to convert that to just a regular sound file. I eventually just recorded some sounds onto my voice memo, and it sounded pretty good. So I kept it. Luckily, we got the podcast done in one take so I didn't have to make any clean cuts on that. This was also after a four hour rehearsal so my brain was not working as well as it could have been. But I got it done!
I'm super excited to share everything I learned about social media through this process. Go listen to my podcast with Kayleigh!
This is awesome! I love that you interviewed Kayleigh, she is so great at social media. You and I have the same schedule right now and I also found it extremely difficult to find a time to complete the podcast. Katja, Matt and I had to meet at 10:30 after rehearsal and it felt like it took us all night to record and edit. I do think it was a good experience and I learned a lot but it was definitely hard. I'm going to go listen to your podcast right now!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I was able to help you out! I love spending any time that I can get with you, even if it is time spent recording a podcast for an assignment! I love that we had a good laugh and that we were able to spend time together despite your busy schedule. Super proud of you!
