Chapter 7: Marketing with Snapchat

Snapchat is one of the social medias I use the most, and I am sure that is a true statement for others my age. I mostly use it to communicate and keep up with friends, especially long distance friends. Even if we aren't having a conversation, I'll get to see a picture of their face or what they are doing. I also stay updated on what's going on in their lives by seeing their snapchat stories. The app makes it so much easier to stay connected with friends, but to me I've never really bought or supported something I've seen on snapchat.

It seems as though most other Snapchat users have the same view of it as I do. According to the textbook, a Snapchat survey of 19,000 people reported that Snapchat is the #1 platform where people enjoy sharing what life is actually like or even random/funny moments. So, now brands are trying to embrace this mindset for marketing their products.

Snapchat is great for marketing to a younger generation. If a brand is trying to market to a new demographic or strengthen their marketing to their younger customers, Snapchat is one of the best places for that. And apparently, Snapchat ads receive twice the visual attention of Facebook ads, 1.5 times more than Instagram ads, and are 1.3 times more effective than Youtube ads.

As a brand, you can create a profile and use snapchat post stories for everyone who adds you to see. If you make your username your brand name, your users can easily find you. You can even have people subscribe to your snapchat!

On snapchat you get content by camera, chat, map, story and spotlight. Users can share content by private stories, public stories, spotlight and Snap Map. One other element of Snapchat is that users can customize pictures and videos taken with the tools snapchat provides to edit. They have tools like lenses, Timeline, sounds, multi snap, timer, focus, grid, 3D, and timeline capture. You can also add filters after, add sounds and songs and even draw on your snap!

I'm definitely going to start paying more attention to how brands market on Snapchat now!
