I have to confess something. I have never used LinkedIn in my life. And I'm not sure when I ever will. All of the job opportunities for musical theatre are found on sites specific to musical theatre, or through an agent. But, after reading this chapter, if I ever do have to use LinkedIn, I will be ready.
LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network according to chapter nine section one of the textbook. It has over one billion users in over two hundred countries. Most users use LinkedIn because it is relevant to them, it is educational or informative, to stay on top of the latest brands, it helps with skill development or because it inspires them.
The first thing a user sees when using LinkedIn to search for companies is a company page. Companies can find information like follower demographics and sources, reach and engagement metrics for posts, page traffic and sources, page views, unique visitors, page clicks and job views and number of job applications from LinkedIn. In 2023, a direct message(DM) feature was added, so now users can send and receive DMs from company pages. Pages Messaging is a similar feature to DMs as well. So members can reach out to brands about products, services and business opportunities. Companies will have a separate inbox to manage relevant inquiries and conversations.
LinkedIn is also a great place for advertising for brands. According to the textbook, advertisers can target 12.7% of the total population. Advertising on LinkedIn can generate leads, increase brand awareness and event registrations. A new feature was also added in 2023 called Accelerate which is an ad creation tool with AI. This can recommend an end-to-end campaign, provide optimizations to target the right audience in five minutes. Brands can also target professionals by using matched audiences and demographic data. When posting ads, advertisers can also choose between three different categories, awareness, consideration and conversion. There are different types of ads as well. Sponsored content, sponsored messaging, text ads, dynamic ads, and lead generation forms.
Now I know a little more about how LinkedIn works, in case I ever use it in the future.
I like how real you are about not knowing much about LinkedIn. Great job making LinkedIn approachable even for those outside traditional business fields!
ReplyDeleteI’d definitely recommend getting a LinkedIn account! It’s an excellent way to network and keep up with updates from your favorite brands, plus you can find some great professional opportunities. I also enjoyed how you organized the information. It made it super easy to understand LinkedIn's features and benefits!
