Youtube!
As a musical theatre major, Youtube is actually a social media we use a lot to market ourselves. When submitting for auditions we normally have to submit vocal reels, dance reels, and acting reels. These are a compilation of our best acting, dancing and singing performances and videos. These are normally posted on youtube and you send in links. I mostly make mine unlisted, so you can only view them with the link. Maybe I should make them public though, just to put myself out there a bit more. Also, once you have your website setup, you can also add your reels to your website to market yourself as well.
You can watch just about anything on youtube now. From short clips, to music videos to documentaries to movie trailers and movies, to audio recordings to educational videos and corporate videos there are so many things to explore. I feel like what I use Youtube for mostly consists of watching my favorite creators, music videos and using karaoke tracks to practice songs for my vocal lessons.
Youtube was founded in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. And now eighty-one percent of businesses use videos to market themselves and their product. It is important to create a youtube channel for your company to be able to market on youtube. First off, making sure the cover picture and profile picture are the same as the pictures on other social media is important. It creates consistency. Then write a bit about your brand in the about section of the profile, a welcome message or mission is always a good place to start.
Youtube uses three different categories when it comes to personalizing someone's feed. They are personalization, performance, and external factors. Personalization is user watch history and action, performance is interest in watching the video, view duration and satisfaction and external factors are topical interests, how competition is performing and relevance to the current season. This has an impact on a users homepage, suggested videos, search bar, trending and subscribers and subscriptions.
Youtube Shorts is also a newer factor of Youtube. It is kind of like a TikTok, but on Youtube. You can scroll through short videos that Youtube creators make. I think I should start using all these features to start marketing myself more for musical theatre on Youtube.
