The Social Dilemma

Image
So, to be completely honest I did get my movies mixed around. I got The Social Network and The Social Dilemma mixed up. I really like the movie The Social Network so when I realized that wasn't what we were watching, I was a little disappointed. If you haven't seen it it is about Mark Zuckerberg and how facebook was created. But it isn't a documentary, it is just a movie telling the story of the creation of Facebook. But The Social Dilemma has definitely been an interesting watch.      The Social Dilemma talks about the dangers of social media and how companies basically manipulate us into being addicted to our phones and apps. There are interviews of employees who used to work at some of these companies and can attest to the way that things are run. They send notifications to keep you on your phone and use psychology to keep you addicted.  There were a mix of interviews and staged scenarios to get their point across in this documentary....

Holiday Tech Week!

Image
On Sunday, we went into tech for the ONU Holiday Spectacular! For those who don't know what a tech week is, it is the week before a show opens where all technical elements are added, like lights, sound, set, costumes, hair and makeup, props, etc. All the actors have been running the show for a while now, so this week is a time for the tech crew to practice what they do and for the actors to get used to all the new elements as well. On Sunday, rehearsal was about 11 hours. I got there at 11:30 for the crew meeting and we started to set up. I left that night around 10 or 11pm. We had an hour break for dinner and we periodically took ten minute breaks throughout the rehearsal as well so the actors and crew had time to sit down, drink some water and, you know, take a break.       It was a very long day and I was exhausted by the end of the night. As an assistant stage manager, I am in charge of stage left, or SL. I had to learn about where all the set pieces we mo...

Marketing with Tik Tok

I'm sure all of us use Tik Tok, or have used it at some point. It is such a popular social media app now, and they really have optimized marketing on the app! I know so many people that have bought items on Tik Tok Shop, just because someone makes a video about the product and adds the link to that item on Tik Tok Shop. Lots of creators also do PR hauls of what companies send them, or they make videos about what skincare and makeup products they use, or what clothes they like or even what food brands they like. Brands don't even have to ask creators to make videos or sponsor them, some creators just do it all on their own because they like to share their favorite products. And to be completely honest, I'm more likely to buy something someone recommends on Tik Tok if it isn't sponsored anyway. If a creator is passionate about it, they really do make me want to buy that item.      I've also noticed that Tik Tok is a much more informal place for brands. ...

Fun with Friends!

One of my favorite things to do is spend time with the people I care about. During the week we all have rehearsals and classes so we all see each other, but it's also just so nice to hang out in a setting that is much less professional. On Friday, my friends and I had rehearsal until 10pm but after they all came over to my room. We all talked and laughed and caught up on what has been going on in our lives. Then we took a trip to the C-Store to get some snacks and then headed over to our friend Kayleigh's dorm. She lives in the Theta House, which she calls the Thouse, and since no theta events were going on we got to hang out in the Thouse. We all sat on the giant couch and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show. I forgot how fun the movie is, I haven't seen it in so long. It is so strange and a bit of a fever dream, but a great movie to watch with friends. We did not get to finish it though. Since we started it so late, half of us had fallen asleep during the movie, so ...

Taking Some Time for Myself

I know I blogged about Holiday starting last week, but we are still in the midst of rehearsals and I am exhausted. I feel like I have no time for anything. I am really looking forward to this weekend so I can rest, relax, clean up my room, and take some time for myself.      I really don't have much extra time right now, and if I do, it is mostly used for homework. So, this weekend I already have a plan about what I am going to do to clean and relax. I need to do some laundry, wash my sheets and clean up my room. When I get busy, everything around me seems to get really messy. So, I'm going to pick up my room, vacuum  and maybe reorganize a bit to make it easier to keep things organized.      I also plan on sleeping in when I can, and curling up with a good book. Maybe I'll put some essential oil in my diffuser too. Also taking a good, long shower sounds really nice as well. I could do a little hair mask and make it feel like a lit...

Youtube!

As a musical theatre major, Youtube is actually a social media we use a lot to market ourselves. When submitting for auditions we normally have to submit vocal reels, dance reels, and acting reels. These are a compilation of our best acting, dancing and singing performances and videos. These are normally posted on youtube and you send in links. I mostly make mine unlisted, so you can only view them with the link. Maybe I should make them public though, just to put myself out there a bit more. Also, once you have your website setup, you can also add your reels to your website to market yourself as well.     You can watch just about anything on youtube now. From short clips, to music videos to documentaries to movie trailers and movies, to audio recordings to educational videos and corporate videos there are so many things to explore. I feel like what I use Youtube for mostly consists of watching my favorite creators, music videos and using karaoke tracks to...
