Auditions!
This week has been crazy. As a musical theatre major, dead week is kind of our finals week. We always have auditions during this time so this week is just packed! On Tuesday we had our vocal and acting auditions. Our next season is the musical Hello, Dolly!, the play Machinal and International Play Festival. So, the song I sang was in the style of Hello, Dolly! It was a classical, uptempo song that was really fun to sing. My monologue, on the other hand, was dramatic. It was definitely a bit nerve racking, but all auditions normally are. When they were over I felt pretty good about them too, so hopefully I'm right.
Last night we had the dance call for Hello, Dolly! as well as auditions for 60x60, which is our dance show next semester. I had my first dance call from 6:45-7:30, then I went to the tap call from 7:30-8 and then I went to the 60x60 call from 9 to 10. The first call was very fast and in the style of ballet. My feet were cramping so bad because of how fast I had to move. Next was tap, which I am actually horrible at, but I did my best and that's all I can ask for. Finally we learned three separate dances in the 60x60 call. The first was a fast jazz combo that was super fun, then we learned a contemporary piece and then we learned a hip hop combo. My favorite to learn and dance was the hip hop combo. I don't normally dance in that style and it was just so fun.
Today, I woke up so sore. I haven't felt like this in a very long time, but after dancing all night what else should I have expected?
During the rest of the week, on Friday and Saturday, we will have callbacks for the show. Hopefully, I'll be getting callbacks for one of the shows! I really want to be in Machinal, but honestly, I'll just be happy to be in a show. We will probably find out sometime tonight who got callbacks for what and we will have to learn any new material, songs or scenes, for the callbacks. I'm crossing my fingers!
As a theatre major, you sure do keep busy! Kudos to you guys, honestly. You have way more energy and drive than most people and you should be proud! I hope you’ll be getting a callback soon, and I’m glad you continue to do what you love most! Keep going, girl!
