Week One of Sophomore Year!!!

It's still hard for me to believe that I'm a sophomore this year, but here we are! I had my first week of classes and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for me throughout the semester. I'm a Musical Theatre major, with a Dance and Arts Administration minor and all of my arts classes are in full gear.

In my Acting II class, we jumped right in. The class is two hours long, so we went over the syllabus and then started doing an exercise called "Repetition." It is a two person exercise and someone points out something about their partners clothes, appearance, etc. Then you repeat that observation back and forth, "you have a red shirt," "I have a red shirt." This exercise does evolve into pointing out movement and behavior, and then into pointing out emotions. It has helped me feel so many genuine emotions by just repeating things over and over again with my partner. Because when you're repeating something for five minutes, emotions tend to get a bit interesting. It's going to be so cool for me to integrate this into an actual performance, let myself go and feel real emotions while I'm onstage.

During the week me and my musical theatre class took our annual bridge pictures. We took a class picture last year and decided to keep the tradition going. They turned out pretty cute! It's kinda cool to see the difference between last year and this year. The picture on the top is from last year and the picture on the bottom is from this year.

It was so good to see all of my friends when I got back. While I was a bit sad to leave all my friends from home again, I was more than excited to see all of my friends here. Now I get to see them every day. Most of my close friends are in the same major as me, so we take a lot of the same classes, and are sometimes even in the same shows. I cannot wait to see where sophomore year takes me as a person and a performer and to be alongside people I love the whole time.

  1. This post made me think about my dance class last fall and the musical theater program I was apart of in high school. Getting to see all of your friends coming back to campus is defiantly the best part of the the first week back. Enjoy your sophomore year because it will all go by faster than you think coming from a senior.
