ONU Homecoming Parade + Live Tweeting!

    For an assignment for my social media class, I went to see the Ohio Northern University Homecoming parade. It was such a fun experience. Some of my friends were in the parade, there were super cute polar paws dogs and the marching band and color guard. It was a super fun experience and a fun event to go to with friends. Another part of the assignment was to be live tweeting during the event. I have never live tweeted before and honestly I never realized how stressful it could be. By the time I was done tweeting one thing, I saw something else cute or cool I wanted to share with my audience.  It definitely kept me on my toes. One thing that helped was that I went with friends, one of whom is in this class with me. I think we helped keep each other on track. But I did feel that I was able to post about everything I wanted to and I'm proud of myself for keeping cool while being a bit overwhelmed. 

    My favorite part of the parade was when the Polar Paws dogs walked by. They were so cute and fluffy and one was even dressed as a shark! It really made my morning. Also, I had friends in Theta that came up and hugged me when they walked by. It was a super wholesome experience. I also go to get breakfast and coffee with my friends who went to the parade with me. It was just a super nice morning in general. 

    I also don't normally use hashtags or post anything on my personal social media to promote an event, so I wasn't fully sure of what to say or do. I wasn't really sure of how much to write, but everything happened so fast, they ended up being short little descriptions for the most part. But I feel like I did a pretty good job describing the parade. It wasn't too long and I feel like I mentioned pretty much everything. Also, I tweeted a couple of pictures that helped get my message across. 

    I had so much fun doing this assignment!

    This parade was so fun with you! I agree with you the Polar Paws were my favorite part of the parade, too. I also loved seeing our RA and sorority friends as well because everyone looked so happy. I felt stressed too because I never really felt like there was a moment where I wasn't tweeting, and yet I still felt like I wasn't doing enough. I think we should try and attend more ONU events if we have time because I love feeling a part of this community. Love you, Ella!

    Hey Ella! I also decided to do the homecoming parade as my live tweeting assignment. I have to agree, it definitely kept me on my toes. There was so much good content that I wish I could have posted but it all happened so fast. Glad to hear you had a good time and my favorite was also probably the polar paws!

Thanksgiving Break!

 Thanksgiving break was much needed for all of us, but I can't help feeling like it wasn't much of a break. I feel like I packed so much into one week, where I managed to exhaust myself and not come back as refreshed as I had hoped. Almost every single night of break I hung out with a group of my friends, or my family. Also, due to The Holiday Spectacular, I didn't get home until Sunday night. The Social Dilemma

      So, to be completely honest I did get my movies mixed around. I got The Social Network and The Social Dilemma mixed up. I really like the movie The Social Network so when I realized that wasn't what we were watching, I was a little disappointed. If you haven't seen it it is about Mark Zuckerberg and how facebook was created. But it isn't a documentary, it is just a movie telling the story of the creation of Facebook. But The Social Dilemma has definitely been an interesting watch.      The Social Dilemma talks about the dangers of social media and how companies basically manipulate us into being addicted to our phones and apps. There are interviews of employees who used to work at some of these companies and can attest to the way that things are run. They send notifications to keep you on your phone and use psychology to keep you addicted.  There were a mix of interviews and staged scenarios to get their point across in this documentary....

Holiday Tech Week!

  On Sunday, we went into tech for the ONU Holiday Spectacular! For those who don't know what a tech week is, it is the week before a show opens where all technical elements are added, like lights, sound, set, costumes, hair and makeup, props, etc. All the actors have been running the show for a while now, so this week is a time for the tech crew to practice what they do and for the actors to get used to all the new elements as well. On Sunday, rehearsal was about 11 hours. I got there at 11:30 for the crew meeting and we started to set up. I left that night around 10 or 11pm. We had an hour break for dinner and we periodically took ten minute breaks throughout the rehearsal as well so the actors and crew had time to sit down, drink some water and, you know, take a break.       It was a very long day and I was exhausted by the end of the night.
